Open Discussion: Favre officially a Minnesota Viking

It's official: Brett Favre is the newest Minnesota Viking. This after the recent news that Favre had turned down the Vikes and Head Coach Brad Childress in favor of staying retired. After meeting with Childress earlier today, he was seen practicing with the team, wearing a number 4 jersey. Here is the latest story from the AP's David Campbell as it appears on MPR NewsQ.

Uhm, I don't watch football with any regularity anymore, and I know this would be a big deal. Actually I wonder more about Wisconsin fans reactions... I mean, really. He heads West for THE VIKINGS? Whew.

Would it help our Vikes or would it only make the late-season choke more poignant?

Good point, Carol. But he is a great player (464 TDs, 310 interceptions, 65,127 yards according to nfl.com)! I wonder what his daughters are thinking right now.

I know all of his stats. And I know he is a great player, trust me, I know. I have been a huge fan for years. My son idolized this man. This is why I think he should stay retired. If you say you are retired, you should stick to it. I don't want his name smeared any more than it already has been. His career has been too good for how he is acting now.
I just try to remember...is there any washed out quarterbacks that have ever made a comeback in a good way...for their new team?
If the answer is no...why sign him at all?

I'm a huge Favre fan and I would love to see him play for the Vikings simply because of the drama of it all. :)

I am glad to see Brett with the Vikings. Now, at least twice a year he can exact his revenge on the Packers. I used to like the Packers until they let Brett go. Brett played so hard in Green Bay, even when he was hurt. Green Bay showed no loyalty to him, they should have let him retire there. Go Vikings!

This will surely spur the addition of another slang word to the English vernacular. Example: "Hey joe, stop favring around and make up your mind already." Here is a less obvious example: "I just favred my way through the past month of my life." Translation: I led many people astray, continually oscilated between decision, and basically made my life much more dramatic than it needed to be by drawing lots of attention to myself. (Note: this is similar to how many use the word "facebook" as an adjective and verb these days).

Take a look at this story by MPR's Mark Zdechlik. Apparently, businessmen saw the Favre signing coming.
