Wasn't it begun during WW II to give us more daylight time for war production? (I know, I should research it, Prof.)

Wow - That's a lot of history, LT. I actually read most of it. It's amazing how many different applications & changes it creates around the world. The only thing I don't like about it is having to set the alarm to wake up at 2:00 AM to reset my clock. And what happens to that hour that someone took away from me? Sure, I get it back in the fall, but shouldn't I get some compensation for their use of my hour? LOL.

Actually Lebrea, the article makes one error -- Ben Franklin did propose daylight savings time. He actually calculated the number of tons of tallow that would be saved in Paris by converting to DST. Because time keeping was so flexible then, we really don't know how many used DST, but Jim is correct that the U.S. made a big deal of it during WWII. When one multiplies it over a really large area, it does save an enormous amount of energy.

Actually, I watched the video and it was fascinating. That time zone thing across the world is confusing, especially when the sun gets to the international date line. It is 3 am in Hawaii when it is 10:28 pm in Tokyo. I don't get that.
